The Pamlico Sail and Power Squadron Education Department would like to develop a 2010 calendar of course offerings that meet our membership’s needs. We have many wonderful instructors who selflessly volunteer their time and knowledge. We’d like your feedback on how the Education Department can better serve the local community in general and our membership in particular.
The public seminars available are:
Using VHF and VHF/DSC Marine Radio; Using GPS; How to Use a Chart; Onboard Weather Forecasting; Boat Handling under Power; Sail Trim and Rig Tuning; Paddle Smart; Anchoring; Hurricanes and Boats; Marine RADAR; Knots, Bends and Hitches; and Trailering Your Boat. In addition, there are new seminars for 2010: Basic Coastal Navigation; Mastering the Rules of the Road; Partner in Command; Advanced Power Boat Handling and Mariner’s Compass.
Member only courses include:
Cruise Planning; Engine Maintenance; Marine Electronics; Sail; Weather; Seamanship; Piloting; Advanced Piloting; Junior Navigation; and Navigation.
You can visit our web site for a brief description of each course at http://www.pamlicosailandpowersquadron.org/
I appreciate your comment indicating courses of interest.

Hi Robert, PSPS provided a course several years ago called Skipper Saver. We had a good number of “Mates” take that course and all found it interesting and useful. I’ve spoken with a few people who believe that would be a good course for them to start with. Is it still available, maybe under another name?
Thanks, Chris
Hi Chris,
I’m glad we have some interest in that course. I have spoken with Bill at Cypress Landing and they would like to host it. It has been renamed to Partner in Command. Hopefully we can get it scheduled before next spring.
Thanks,
Robert
For those interested in the Cruise Planning course, we are reserving the Brown Library meeting room for Thursday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:30 starting January 14. Couples are encouraged to attend and can share the course materials. In addition to conveying our 12 years of cruise planning experience, Inza and I will illustrate how one may make use of a computer to help with the process both at home and on board. Those who have taken the course before are most welcome to attend.
Hope to see you, Scott
I would very much like to see the AP course offered in 2010.
We are planning a Piloting course for this spring. Hopefully we can get some additional interest for an AP course in the fall. If you know anyone else who would be interested in the AP course please let me know. Thanks for your feedback.
